Recipes from the Heart

Singapore, 4 August 2010 – Recipes from the Heart inspires delicious meals and more importantly, hope. A specialty cookbook put together by Project Happy Feet and aiming to raise funds for MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) and Project Happy Feet, Recipes from the Heart features the best of 10 Singapore chefs, accompanied by photographs shot by award-winning food photographer, Edmond Ho of Jambu Studio.

Recipes from the Heart stems from the fund-raising project entitled Chefs for A Cause, which saw the same ten chefs cook up a meal for close to 600 underprivileged children at the Swissotel, Merchant Court on 28 December 2009.

It is hoped that through these efforts, a total of SGD 340,000 will be raised, 100% of which will go towards the beneficiaries.

Designed by the creative team behind Thinking Designs, Recipes from the Heart is not just a cookbook but also a beautiful and visual coffee table book that can be enjoyed by many.

Chef Jimmy Chok, Chef and owner of Bistro Soori, who supported the planning team by assembling the team of top chefs, is delighted that his fellow chefs have given their full support the moment they heard about the project. “Our passion is in the children of today. We want to give them an opportunity to look at life in a different manner, in a more positive light. We also want to give culinary arts a shot at inspiring these children.”

The other outstanding chefs who have contributed their time, creativity, effort and recipes are Pang Kok Keong, Executive Pastry Chef of Les Amis Group; Daniel Sia, Head Chef at The White Rabbit; Robert Chan, Executive Chef of Swissôtel Merchant Court; Singapore, Petrine Fan, Culinary Instructor at Temesak Polytechnic; Yen Koh, Executive Chef of Unilever Foodsolutions in South East Asia/Singapore; Robin Ho, Chef de Cuisine of Marmalade Group of Restaurants; Anderson Ho, Executive Sous Chef, Singapore airport Terminal Services; Jason Lee, Executive Chef of Seven On Club as well as notable food writer Chef Christopher Tan.

“We are proud to say that 100% of all donations will go directly to the beneficiaries, thanks to our sponsors. The thought of the warmed hearts and filled bellies motivates us to carry on doing what we do, we look forward to more of such projects in the future, working with different charities,” says Ms Deborah Chew, Managing Director of Caelan & Sage Pte Ltd, who also co-founded Project Happy Feet in 2007.

As an official cookbook sponsor, Miele lent their generous support by sponsoring the cost of printing the cookbook so that 100% of the funds raised can go towards the beneficiaries.

“When Chef Jimmy Chok came to us seeking to raise funds for underprivileged children and at the same time inspire some of them to pursue their culinary dreams” says Mario Miranda, Managing Director, Miele Pte Ltd. “It struck a chord with us because at Miele, we keep people the principal focus in the conception of every Miele product, and we believe that we have a responsibility to our consumers, our staff, our society and ultimately, to subsequent generations. We are proud to have made Recipes from the Heart possible. It has touched our hearts as much as it resonates with our beliefs.”Other partners that have contributed to the cookbook include Edmond Ho from Jambu Studio who shot all the photographs in the cookbook, Thinking Designs that provided layout and design services for the cookbook, Oxford Printing that produced the cookbook at cost and last but not least, Chef Christopher Tan who carefully edited the recipes in the cookbook.
